Group of 8 or 9 in Rovaniemi: One Apartment, Two Hotel Rooms or Separate Cabins?
Travelling to Rovaniemi as a group of 8 or 9? We compare one large apartment, several hotel rooms and cabins on space, cost, logistics and everyday ease.

For a group of eight or nine in Rovaniemi, one large apartment is usually the most practical choice, hotel rooms the most flexible, and cabins the most atmospheric. The right answer depends on how long you stay, how you eat and how much you want to be together. Below is our host’s view of each option, including what to ask before you book.
Option 1: one large apartment
A single apartment keeps the group together: one kitchen, one dining area, one place for the children to play and one front door. You cook together, share laundry and divide the cost. It suits families, grandparents and friends who want to spend time together.
Check the beds carefully. Nine Pines sleeps up to nine, with a 160 cm double bed, two rooms with two 90 cm singles each, a sofa bed sized for two children and an armchair bed. That suits a mix of two couples and children, or a family of nine with several children. Less so for nine adults who each need a proper bed, so be realistic.
The downsides: one bathroom and a separate second toilet means morning queues, and the shared space is shared, so privacy is limited. Our flat is on the second floor with no lift.
Option 2: several hotel rooms
Hotels give each family its own room and bathroom, with breakfast and reception. For nine people you will probably need three or four rooms, which adds up, and you will not have a shared kitchen or living space. Families sometimes meet in a restaurant or corridor. On the plus side, there is no cooking or cleaning, which some people want on holiday. Ask whether rooms are on the same floor, whether there is laundry, and what a group of nine does for dinner.
Option 3: cabins
Cabins offer atmosphere, a forest setting and often a private sauna. They can work well for adults who want a cosy retreat. For a group with children, consider distance from services, whether you need a car for every errand, and how the beds divide. Many cabins sleep four to six, so a group of nine may need two. Ask about winter access roads and parking.
A side-by-side view
| One apartment | Hotel rooms | Cabins | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Togetherness | High | Low to medium | Medium |
| Cooking | One shared kitchen | None, restaurants | Usually a kitchen each |
| Privacy | Lower | High | High |
| Laundry | Often on site | Rarely | Varies |
| Location | Residential or central | Central | Often rural |
Cost: how to compare fairly
Always compare the total for the whole group and the whole stay, including breakfasts, restaurant meals, extra taxis and cleaning fees. An apartment where you cook might cost less overall even if the nightly rate looks similar. We do not quote nightly prices for Nine Pines because they change with dates, so check live prices on Airbnb or Booking.com and compare with hotel totals for the same dates.
What about a sauna?
Many people want a sauna in Finland. Nine Pines has no sauna in the apartment, but there are public saunas at the swimming hall in the centre, and guests get 5 % off a private wood-heated sauna tour via our activities page. If a private sauna is essential for you, choose a cabin or a place that has one.
Getting around as a group
With nine people you will probably use a minivan, two cars or taxis. Nine Pines has one free parking space, with room for a car with a roof box. If you plan two cars, ask about additional parking. A direct bus runs from 150 m away to the centre in about 15 minutes. Our location page lists the options.
Rules and noise
Large groups should read house rules. Our maximum is nine guests, with quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00 and no parties; it is a quiet family building. If your group wants lively evenings, a different type of accommodation may suit you better.
How we would choose
For a family trip with children and grandparents: one apartment. For friends who want privacy: hotel rooms or cabins. For a week in winter: somewhere with laundry and parking, whichever type it is. Take a look at the Nine Pines page to see if the layout works for your group.
Mixing options
You do not have to choose only one type. Some groups combine an apartment for the family core with an extra hotel room for a couple who want privacy. Others rent an apartment for most of the stay and add a night in a cabin. Mixing works best when the places are close together, so you can share meals and rides.
Questions to ask any host about a large group

- How many cars can park, and where?
- Is there laundry, and is it in the flat?
- What are the quiet hours and guest limits?
- How quickly will you reply if something goes wrong?
Answers to these questions tell you far more than photographs do.
