Rovaniemi Accommodation for Large Families: Beds, Bathrooms and Kitchen Explained

Planning Rovaniemi accommodation for a large family? How to read a bed list, and what bathrooms and kitchen to look for.

Fully equipped kitchen at Nine Pines family apartment, Rovaniemi

For a large family in Rovaniemi, the number that matters is not “sleeps 8” but how many real beds there are, how they are split between rooms and whether the adults can close a door on the children. A family of seven to nine usually needs three bedrooms, a kitchen that can cook for everyone and laundry in the apartment, and that combination is hard to find in a standard hotel room.

We are Joona and Alla. Our apartment sleeps nine, and over time we have learned what large families actually ask us. This guide walks through the choices, using our own layout as the worked example.

How do you read a bed list for a large family?

Start by counting real beds, then count the extras. A listing that sleeps eight may include a sofa bed that is only comfortable for a child, or a fold-out in the living room that becomes a thoroughfare at night. Neither is bad, but you should know.

Here is how Nine Pines is laid out, so you can see what a clear bed list looks like:

  • Bedroom 1: a 160 cm double bed.
  • Bedroom 2: two 90 cm single beds.
  • Bedroom 3: two 90 cm single beds.
  • Living room: a sofa bed sized for two children and an armchair bed.

That makes up to nine sleeping places across three bedrooms and the living room. The apartment is 103 m² on one floor, with wardrobes in every room, so suitcases can be put away and the floors stay clear.

Which family combinations work best?

Because the single beds are in pairs, the layout suits families with several children or with two couples travelling together. Some examples of how guests tend to divide things up:

  • Two parents, four to six children: parents in the double bedroom, children across the twin rooms and the sofa bed.
  • Two families: one couple in the double bedroom, the other couple using a twin room with the beds side by side, children in the third room.
  • Three generations: grandparents in a quieter bedroom, parents in another, children in the third.

Treat these as ideas rather than rules. The point is that separate rooms make nine people feel like a household instead of a queue.

What about babies and toddlers?

If you travel with a baby, ask about a cot before you book. We provide a baby cot free on request and have colouring books for children. A separate bedroom with a door matters more than anything else with a baby, because bedtimes differ. We go into more detail in staying in Rovaniemi with a baby or toddler.

Kitchen and table: the quiet make-or-break

Feeding nine people three times a day is a project. Check that the kitchen has an oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and kettle, and that there are enough plates and pans for your group. Ours is fully equipped for nine. One honest detail: the dining table seats six, so with a full house some of the family eat at the sofa or in two shifts. We would rather you know that now. For ideas on what to cook, see easy family dinners from a Finnish supermarket, and for the shopping itself, grocery shopping in Rovaniemi.

Bathrooms: one shower, two toilets

This is the detail large families should ask about. We have one bathroom with a shower and a separate second toilet. With nine people, morning routines need a rota, and the second toilet helps a great deal. If your group is all adults who shower at the same time, a place with two full bathrooms might suit you better, and we would rather tell you than have you discover it.

Laundry for a big group

Winter clothes for nine people take time to dry. A washing machine and tumble dryer in the apartment turn a problem into a routine: snowsuits go in after dinner and are dry by morning. Our guide why a tumble dryer matters on a Lapland holiday explains why this is more than a convenience.

Access and logistics for a large party

We are on the second floor and there is no lift, which is worth knowing with prams and heavy cases. One parking space is in the yard next to the entrance, with room for a car with a roof box. For bigger groups arriving in two vehicles, plan for the second to find nearby parking, and message us beforehand so we can advise. Check-in is from 16:00, any time of day, with a code lockbox; the code and a photo guide are sent three days before arrival. House rules that suit families

The building is a quiet family building. Quiet hours run from 22:00 to 07:00, the maximum is nine guests and parties are not allowed. This is not a hurdle for most families, but it is worth reading before you book. The guest guide sets out the details.

Planning the week with a big group

A little organisation makes a large group run smoothly. Agree a simple daily rhythm: one adult leads breakfast, another handles the dishwasher and laundry, and shoes and outdoor gear live in the hallway rather than the living room. Set aside one evening to cook together and one to eat something simple. Split the grocery shopping into one big first trip and quick top-ups at the K-Market or Sale nearby.

It also helps to decide early who is on the sofa bed and armchair bed, and to let children choose between the twin rooms. Those small decisions, made before you arrive, remove most of the friction. We are happy to answer questions about the layout before you book, and we usually reply within the hour.
