Winter 2026–27 in Rovaniemi, Week by Week: Which Apartment Dates to Check First
A week-by-week guide to winter 2026–27 in Rovaniemi, from late November to March, and which apartment dates to check first.

If you are choosing a winter week for a Rovaniemi apartment, start with the weeks that are fixed by the calendar: the Christmas fortnight, New Year, and the February and March school-holiday periods. Everything else is flexible. This guide takes the winter of 2026–27 week by week, from late November to 31 March, and tells you what each stretch is like to stay in and what to check first.
We are a local couple who host guests in Rovaniemi, so this is written from the host side. We do not quote prices because ours change daily; the point is to help you decide which dates to check on Airbnb or Booking.com.
Late November: the quiet start (week of 23 November)
Snow is likely but not guaranteed, daylight is shortening quickly, and the town is gearing up for Christmas. This is the calm week for families who want the apartment, the forest paths and the dark sky without the crowds. Our guide to staying in Rovaniemi in November covers what to expect. Black Friday weekend (27–30 November) falls here, but it does not change how apartments are priced; see our note on that.
1–12 December: pre-Christmas weeks
The Christmas lights are up, Independence Day is on 6 December, and the polar night sets in with only a few hours of light. It is a good time for a first Lapland trip if you want to be here before the main rush. Read early December before Christmas for the practical side.
12–19 December: the build-up
Finnish schools break up around this time and international families begin to arrive. Check availability early for this stretch if you need three bedrooms. See our mid-December planning guide.
Saturday 19 December to Saturday 2 January: the Christmas fortnight
This is the part of the winter that fills first. Thursday 24 December is Christmas Eve, Sunday 27 December ends the long weekend, and New Year’s Eve is Thursday 31 December. If you can only travel in this window, decide your arrival day first, because a seven-night stay from 19 December covers a very different Rovaniemi from one starting on 27 December. Useful reading: seven nights over Christmas and 27–30 December.
3–10 January: back to normal
Epiphany is Wednesday 6 January. Many visitors have gone home, shops return to normal hours and the town is quieter. For families who like snow, a calmer pace and more choice of dates, this is attractive. See the first week of January.
11–31 January: deep winter
This is when the cold is most reliable and the sky is dark enough for good aurora chances on clear nights. It is also a period when last-minute searches become realistic. Our late January guide explains why.
February: light returns
Daylight is noticeably longer each week and snow conditions are usually excellent. Some weeks coincide with Finnish and international school holidays, so check the dates for your own country. The Finnish winter holiday weeks guide is the place to start.
March: bright snow and spring light
Evenings get lighter, the sun is strong on the snow, and aurora season continues. The clocks change on Sunday 28 March 2027, which shifts the evening light for the last weekend. Planning notes are in our March guide.
How to use the calendar when you book a large group
- Mark the fixed weeks you cannot move (school holidays, work leave).
- Ask whether two or three arrival days are possible within those weeks.
- Check each date on the platform with the full guest count entered.
- Book a cancellable rate for the first decent match.
For groups of seven to nine, the number of suitable apartments is small, so decide earlier than you would for a couple. The large-group booking timeline explains why.
What Nine Pines offers across the whole winter
Whichever week you choose, the practicalities do not change: 103 m² on one floor with three bedrooms, a kitchen for nine, a washing machine and tumble dryer, a balcony, fast Wi-Fi, free parking in the yard and a lockbox check-in from 16:00 that works even late at night. Details are on the apartment page.
Which week suits which kind of group?
Families with young children often prefer the early December and January weeks, when the pace is calm and the dark evenings are not too late for bedtime. Groups of adult friends often prefer late January to March, when the nights are long enough for aurora and the days are long enough for outdoor time. Multi-generational groups tend to look for the Christmas fortnight, because it is the only time everyone can travel; if that is you, start your search first and be ready to adjust arrival day. Couples with a flexible schedule can pick almost any week. Groups needing three bedrooms and a kitchen for nine have the narrowest choice of apartments, so they should decide earliest.
Whichever pattern you follow, remember that dates are the biggest lever on both availability and price. Read why Rovaniemi apartment prices change by date, and then check live dates on Airbnb or Booking.com. We do not quote nightly prices on this site.
If you want us to look at your dates, message us on WhatsApp with the group size and the weeks you are considering. We will tell you honestly which are open and which are likely to be difficult.
